Biography of Dr Arthit Ourairat
Dr. Arthit Ourairat has led a life dedicated to education and the improvement of society. Born into a family that emphasised the transformative power of learning, Dr. Arthit carried these values through an extraordinary career at the highest level.
Graduating from Chulalongkorn University with a Bachelor of Arts and Political Science, Dr. Arthit’s educational journey took on a global dimension with Master's Degrees in International Relations and Public Service, followed by a Ph.D in Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Colorado, USA.
Dr. Arthit’s interests and expertise are wide ranging, and include rural and urban development, public administration, foreign affairs, public health, science and technology and environmental development. With this broad background, he was appointed as President of the House of Representatives and President of the Parliament in Thailand.
In 1990, Dr. Arthit was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs. In 1993, he became the Minister of Public Health and then Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment in 2000.
During his career, Dr. Arthit expanded health insurance for Thai people, promoted the education of doctors and nurses within private Universities and managed various bilateral and multilateral levels of cooperation within the international arena, representing Thailand in countries across the world.
Recognising the importance of education to his own life and career, and wishing to establish educational institutions of the highest order within Thailand, Dr. Arthit established Rangsit University, Dulwich International College (now known as British International School, Phuket), Satit Bilingual School of Rangsit University in Bangkok and Satit International Bilingual School of Rangsit University located in Chiang Mai.
